What is Construe and how does it work?

Construe is a configurable Med RAG as an API that supports both built-in common medical terminology systems like LOINC, SNOMED, and ICD10 as well as custom terminology systems ( think custom codes your organization might use). You can use construe to extract codes present in unstructured text and configure your usage based on the specific coding system you're interested in as well as other RAG settings (e.g. chunking method for the unstructured text).

What kinds of use cases can this be used for?

Construe can be useful in a variety of settings from extracted detected codes for a revenue cycle management use case, tagging unstructured clinical notes for use in downstream systems, to enabling personalization for patients through detection of clinical context from notes and messages. We use construe in lang2FHIR and other PhenoML products to ensure accurate usage of codes as direct usage of LLMs can result in hallucinated medical codes (check out our 📊 Benchmarking analyses for more information on this).
